September Charity Swim

At the end of September, when you have recovered from the summer holidays and got your stamina back again, we will be attempting a charity swim. The aim of this is to raise money for the RNLI and the Juli Spendley Foundation (Elivia’s Mum in second session).

The challenge will be to swim the equivalent of Poole to Cherbourg (62NM or 115Km) which equates to 4,600 lengths of the pool.

All sessions will take part and swim as far as they can. Rest will be allowed and it is the total number of lengths swum at the end of the evening that will count. Parents are more than welcome to join the children (if you can keep up!).

We are considering charging a fixed fee rather than sponsorship forms and Anne and I will finalise this over the summer and let you know. Keep an eye on the web site for more details.

Well done to all throughout the year, have a great summer break and come back refreshed, stronger and raring to go.

Sprint League times updated

The updated sprint league times are now available here. These include all times up to an including the IOW gala. We are still missing times from some children and will be aiming to collect these prior to the summer break.
NOTE: When prompted, enter the username “ringwood”; the password is the same one you use to access the Members Only area.

We will also be introducing a 25m fly league for the younger swimmers.

Regarding awards, I will be defining target improvements for every division in each league to challenge the children to improve. The most improved against their target every month will get a certificate and we are still formulating the overall awards to give at the end of the year. These targets will be defined over the summer and measurements will start in Sept.

Seals win Cherriman Trophy

Well done to all swimmers who braved the very hot weather and even hotter centre for the Cherriman trophy on the 10th July. At the first points tally after 20 races we were lying in second place. After 30 races we were 1 point ahead of Southamnpton, however by the final tally we were ahead by 26 points!

All swimmers swam superbly with some excellent PB’s and a number of individuals / teams coming in just the right side of the cut off times. The boys open relay team (order re-arranged by Jamie to be faster, with a threat from Anne if they were too quick) won their race by a good few metres and 11 hundreths inside the time! Unfortunately, some swam too quickly but obtained PB’ and as you all know we do not worry about speeding tickets if they PB.

Well done to all for a deserved victory and keep this up.

Sprint League Update

I am still awaiting the times from the 50m swims the other week and will update the leagues when I receive these (hopefully this week).

We aim to have all times in by the summer and will start the league and measurments of improvement in earnest in Sept when everyone returns fresh and ready to go.

Regarding rewards, we have been reviewing how this should work to ensure that it is fair to everyone. We will therefore not be providing an award for each division winner every month as this provides no incentive to move up to the next division. Instead we are looking at define target improvements (as a percentage) for each stroke split into time bands (as the younger swimmers are likely to improve quicker than those in Division 1). There will then be an award to those who improve the most within their bands.

If anyone has any suggestions for rewards then please add a comment to this post or see me on a Fri or Sun to discuss.
