15th November 2008 – Novice League – Totton – 2nd
Overall
. We competed against Christchurch
Seagulls, Romsey and Totton, City of Southampton and Hamble. Having been told we were 3rd at the end of the Gala we are pleased to say that after the scores had been checked by the home club we received an email showing our final position was actually second. Once again, several of our chosen swimmers were unavailable despite being given a month’s notice. We understand that prior commitments must be honoured and that you have other interests and hobbies, but please try to support the club by keeping the Gala dates free. The full year’s Gala dates are displayed on the notice board and will be on the website shortly. Many thanks to those swimmers who stepped
in to fill in.

Boy of the Gala – Stanley Morris

Girl of the Gala – Cerys Plested

27th September 08 – Novice League – City of Southampton
– 4th overall.
We were hampered by a drastic
shortage of boys, due partly to a clash with a sailing
competition. However, our 9 yr old enjoyed the opportunity
to swim up in individual races and we were extremely proud of
them. Once again we received several time penalties for
swims beyond our expectations. Well done to those who
surprised us with outstanding improvement.

Boy of the Gala – Cameron Way

Girl of the Gala – Megan Spicer

Seals win Cherriman Trophy (IOW) 5 Jul 08.
An exiting Gala with each team running two lanes of swimmers
scoring points for their team. Only the Isle of Wight could field double relay teams, so they scored just their best relay results from those events to keep the competition fair. Our swimmers always enjoy the chance to race each other and this rivalry in the individual races created an added incentive to swim at their best. Despite all the energy expended on the afternoon of games, 30 new personal best times were achieved including 6 which incurred time penalties. The weather had held dry and sunny for the picnic and afternoon games in the park followed by a winning performance and returning home with trophy once again.

Boy of the Gala – Blake Crosswell.

Girl of the Gala – Jo Clancy

Totton Novice League Gala Winners
Seals win Novice League Round 3 (Totton) 28 Jun 08.
An exiting and enjoyable Gala. We only had a small number
of boys able to attend, so those present had numerous races both
in their own age group and swimming up in older races.
However, they enjoyed being kept busy and rose to the challenge
performing well to the end. Out of the 32 individual races
there were 22 personal best times. Congratulations to all
the swimmers for an excellent win!

Boy of the Gala – Oliver Kebby.

Girl of the Gala – Poppy Tiller.

Novice Gala (Hamble) 26 Apr 08. Having
lead the gala at the start, Seals eventually finished in 3rd
place after receiving several time penalties due to the number
of swimmers who gained excellent new personal best times
performing beyond expectation. An enjoyable event with a
lot of excitement due to the close competition.

Boy of the Gala – William Bedford for
mastering his backstroke finish and giving an excellent
performance in backstroke and freestyle. Other nominations
were Harry Crosswell and Curtis Wrigley.

Girl of the Gala – Lizzy Kirkhope for
a 3 sec PB and improved style in butterfly. Also nominated
was Rose Kitchener for her backstroke swim.
